Artist Bio

 

Born and raised in Louisville, Mississippi, D. Floyd is a Southern Black non-binary, self-taught multidisciplinary visual artist, owner and driving force behind Darneice Creates – a wide-ranging venture that produces artwork, apparel, food, and tattoos. Drawing from their self love journey to liberation and  their spiritual upbringing, Floyd has curated unique projects for Black-owned businesses, Black Scientists, artists, and entrepreneurs, catered a variety of grassroots social events, and exhibited their work in independent art galleries, community centers, museums, and universities across the world since 2014.  They employ a variety of mediums to bring their artwork and many creative gifts to the world to encourage audiences to celebrate, remember,  and preserve the dynamic heirlooms of Black culture. 

In 2017, Floyd received the Mississippi TrailBlazers Award for Most Inspiring Artist of the Year.
In 2021, their 
 artwork was featured in the Big Freedia and Tank & the Bangas music video “BIG”.
 Also In 2021, Floyd was commissioned by Penn State University to design the lab logo and scientific illustration art for the McReynolds Lab as well as The University of Florida to design the lab logo for the Taylor Lab and 
by Columbia University to create art for the Abdus Saboor Lab.
In 2022, Floyd was selected as one of the top designers to debut Darneice Creates apparel on the hit ShowTime series, “The Chi”.

Currently, Floyd is co-founder and Art Director  of Sweet Magnolia Fund, a mutual aid program created for the continued growth and expression of Trans and Queer Black Artists in the South.

D is also the co-owner of Madams of Excellence LLC, a  Black Art & Spirituality Brand owned and operated by Black Queer & Non-binary people in Mississippi. In which, they nurture Black ancestral legacies through art, magic, inspirational products & attire to support our people on their journeys back to themselves. 

D currently spends their time studying animation and the art of tattooing as well as being the co-director of a  forthcoming documentary archiving and celebrating the lives of Black Trans and Queer Artists in the South.
